There are more beauty tips in this world than a girl knows what to do with. Like my NaNa always said, “The more you know, the more you grow.” I've always believed that this statement could be applied toward any facet of life. Below you will find a list of my personal favorite beauty tips to make sure your beauty routine is easier and more efficient this time around. Slay away!

1. NAILS: Don’t have time to completely repaint your chipped nails? Add a quick coat or two of glitter polish on top to make the chips less noticeable. Viola, new nail job!

2. HAIR: To cause less heat damage let your hair air dry before flat ironing or using a curling wand. The hair dryer plus flat iron/curler is a double dose of heat and damage to your locs.

3. HAIR: To keep your hair from falling flat during the day, use a root lifter, tease the roots a bit and set it with hairspray.

4. HAIR: Did a bad, at-home hair-dye turn your hair orange and brassy? Use a color-depositing shampoo with purple tones to fix brassy hair color. You can find these at your local beauty supply shop.

5. FACE: A fan of false lashes? Be sure to use dark glue, instead of the white glue, so it blends better. Plus, it doubles as eyeliner!

6. HAIR: To add volume to clean or even unwashed hair, use a dry shampoo spray to amp up your do.

7. NAILS: Out of nail polish remover? Apply a coat of clear nail polish to your nails, then wipe it off with a paper towel. Bye, old polish!

8. MAKEUP: Clean out your makeup bag at least once every 6 months. Not only will you have more room, but also you’ll be rid of all those unwanted or expired products. Out with the old, in with the new!

9. HAIR: Avoid continuously running your hands through your hair throughout the day to lessen the amount of oil transferred, which can leave your hair limp and unflattering.

10. FACE: Don’t pick at your zits. The amount of bacteria from your fingers will only increase the chance of infection and attempting to pop it will only make the reddening of your skin worse.

11. FACE: Want to pull off the perfect red lip? Always remember to choose a shade that matches your undertone. {ei: Warm undertones should go for warmer reds and cooler undertones should go for cooler reds.}

12. FACE: Wearing white eyeliner on your waterline will make your eyes appear less red.

13. HAIR: Brush your fingers through your curls after styling to create a more tousled appearance.

14. NAILS: Always keep your cuticles moisturized. The more hydrated your cuticles, the stronger your nails.

15. TOP TIP: Splurge on the things that really matter, like your everyday beauty items. And fall in love with your makeup. It’ll make applying it much more enjoyable.

How To Be More Photogenic

A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Then why do some of  us absolutely dread taking them? Sure the world is full of selfie queens and that one sister that always outshines you in the awkward family photo. But what about the other 98% of us who just want people to stop tagging us in unflattering photos?  Sure you look great, but I look like a wildebeest that got smacked by a tree branch. Even if you’re the epitome of beauty in real life, sometimes the camera is just not your best friend. I’ve got great news for you. Being photogenic is totally achievable, even if it may not seem so at first.. Here are some  tips to get you more Instalikes than selfie queen herself, Kim K.

  • Are you a blinker? If you always get caught in the camera looking like you're about to sneeze, tell the photographer to count down. Close your eyes and open and smile on three. No more closed eyes
  • Not a fan of smiling with teeth? Try smizing: smiling with your eyes or push your tongue behind your teeth when you smile. This will allow your smile to look more natural.
  • Put your hand on your hip, angle your body slightly to the side, and turn your head towards the camera. This angled pose guarantees a slimmer look on cam. Most of us in the South call it the "sorority pose", but really this is really an old school, red carpet classic.
  • Use props! Holding a Starbucks cup or your phone will cause you to relax your posture and therefore help you look less camera shy.
  • Get someone to talk to you while you are taking pictures. Chances are they are going to make you laugh or allow the photographer to capture the perfect candid moment.
  • Know your good side. If you know that you like the way you look when the right side of your face is facing the camera, then stand with the right side of your face facing the camera. Don’t be afraid to speak up when your extremely photogenic friend tries to take your side either.  Swap sides and get your shine on.
  • Always feel like you have a double chin showing? Tilt your head down a bit and give it a slight angle. Make sexy eye contact with the camera and smile.
  • Want to give your face more character? Fill in your brows and go for a bold lip color.
  • If you must take a duckface shot, don't press your lips too hard together as it makes your lips appear thinner and unflattering. Make a kissing face and then slightly open your mouth. Slightly!
  • Remember that the true purpose of photos is to capture memories of yourself at a certain point in your life and also to capture memories with loved ones. Just because you feel like you're not photogenic doesn't mean it's always true. The more practice you get, the better the outcome will be. Smile!
