Stress and anxiety seem to find a way into our everyday lives one way or another, and sometimes it becomes so overwhelming that it starts to negatively affect the way we think and act. Although Stress tends to cloud our thoughts, alter our moods, strain our bodies and increase our heart and blood pressure, it is possible to counteract it. Here are several ways to help control your stress levels, ease your mind and relax your body.

1. Drink A Cup Of Tea
Herbal teas are said to have several health benefits that serve to bring down stress levels by acting as a calming agent to soothe the mind and body. Check out Yogi Teas to help you find the perfect tea for your symptoms, they have a tea for everything from easing tension to supporting a good night’s sleep! A couple common teas are listed below along with a brief description of their health benefits.

  • Lavender Tea: The aroma of lavender aids relaxation & soothes the nerves.
  • Chamomile Tea: Supports the digestive system & sleeping disorders like insomnia.
  • Peppermint Tea: Helps aid stomach pains & relieves nausea.
  • Lemon Tea: Gets rid of toxins within the body & helps with fatigue.

2. Aromatherapy
Essential oils are known to reduce stress, calm high anxiety levels and improve overall well being. For those who would rather have essential oils in the form of lotion, body mist and/or body washes, check out Bath & Body Works's Aromatherapy Collection which is said to benefit the mind, body and mood! Keep in mind that each essential oil has a different purpose, to give you an idea here are what some oils are commonly known for.

  • Lavender: Calms the body & aids sleep for those of us who are insomniacs!
  • Eucalyptus: Clears the mind & helps with concentration.
  • Citrus: Soothes the nerves &  heightens our senses.
  • Peppermint: Boosts energy & alleviates aches/pains.

3. Simply Eat
There are certain foods that actually help fight stress and decrease anxiety! Don’t be fooled and resort to your typical comfort foods when bombarded with stress, go for snacks that are not only healthy but can help bring your stress levels down to a minimum.

  • Avocados: They naturally have vitamin B in them that reduces stress levels. They are also known to lower blood pressure.
  • Blueberries: Consider a super food that’s rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, which gives them the ability to act as a stress fighting agent!
  • Almonds: Vitamin B2 found in almonds help the immune system in times of stress and relieves it, while Vitamin E fights free radicals that are affiliated with stress.
  • Oatmeal: Being rich in carbohydrates means that oatmeal can increase serotonin levels in our brain to help reduce anxiety levels and leave you more relaxed.

4. Exercise/ Yoga
Not only does exercising/yoga have physical benefits, it can also be used to maintain your mental well being. Exercising is a great way to let off that steam and just  take your mind off of everyday stress.  Yoga is known to reduce anxiety  by revitalizing that tired body and stressed out mind.

5. Meditation and Breathing Strategies
Meditation has many benefits to reducing stress and lowering the chances of having an anxiety attack. Meditating gives you the opportunity to clear your mind, focus on yourself, calm down your emotions, and remove yourself from stressful environments. By focusing on your breathing for 5 minutes with deep breathing strategies (that you can even do while meditating), you are slowly counteracting anxiety while lowering your heart rate.

6. Listen To Music
Slow and quiet music such as nature sounds can often help relax your mind and body. Here are a few Pandora Stations that will help you do just that! You can also practice deep breathing strategies while listening to these calming tunes. Try “Spa” radio, “Nature” Radio, “Calm Meditation” Radio or, “Liquid Mind” Radio

7 .Steamy Showers & Hot Baths
Hot Showers help soothes pain and relieves tension within the muscles by promoting blood flow and circulation within the body. Baths on the other hand have the power to calm our bodies down from the wear and tear of stress and anxiety! The next time you decide to take a bath try using Lush Bath Bombs! They have a variety of bath bombs to give you a pleasurable bath experience. Bath bombs induces feelings, promotes deep relaxation, get rid of toxins and eases tension.

8. Rest Your Mind, Relax & Get A Good Night’s Rest
In a sense, stress and sleep go hand and hand. Sleeping gives our minds and bodies a break after a long day but only getting less than 7 hours of sleep could actually add more stress onto our lives. Getting plenty of sleep can help better our health, uplift our mood and improve our thinking and memory skills.
